Though love is a universal need, there’s also a tragic disconnect between those who are starved for love and yet haven’t received it.
Imagine God’s love being a vast body of water, perfectly pure and cool and unending. Everyone makes difference choices about the water:
- Some people have no idea God even cares for them.
- Others are aware and have eagerly drunk from the ocean of His love.
- Still others can see the sparkling, thirst-quenching water and yet they choose not to drink. Maybe they don’t feel worthy, and others are fearful of what they’ll have to pay for the water, or what demands might come with accepting it.
- There’s a huge set of people who’ve tasted the water and then get distracted and live their own way, finding water substitutes.
That’s the picture of humanity searching for true love.
The most profound truth I’ve grasped on my journey of faith is God’s love for me, completely apart from my performance or service. It’s so easy to confuse His love for things that feel so close to love, like—
- Admiration
- Encouragement
- Affirmation
- Value
And yet, at the very core of who we’ve been created to be, we are deeply loved. It’s a transformative belief to embrace, knowing I am loved JUST AS I AM, because of Who God is.
You are loved. We are loved.
And no matter where we fall on the spectrum of understanding, we need frequent reminders of His deep love for us.
6 Bible Verses That Reveal Profound Truths About God’s Deep Love For Every One of Us
1. He CREATED us for Himself.
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:26-27)
It’s easy to think about the other elements of creation being made by Him and for Him — the angels, the trees, the oceans. You are His creation, too. He made you so He could be with you!
What we create matters to us, whether it’s a garden, a meal or a home. What God makes for Himself matters to Him, and He made you and me. We matter to our Creator.

2. He shows KINDNESS to all people.
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. (Matthew 5:44-45)
In God’s providence, He demonstrates kindness to all. He gives humans, even the evilest people, breath and life. He doesn’t just love those who are righteous, but the unrighteous, too.
Give thanks to God that He doesn’t discriminate based on our goodness. In God’s providence, He demonstrates kindness to all.

3. His PURSUIT of us demonstrates God’s love.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. (Luke 19:10)
Through the incarnation, we see that God is proactively pursuing a relationship with us.
- Do you remember how great it felt to be pursued by someone when you were young? It was probably in grade school or middle school when most of us heard, for the first time, that someone had a crush on us. It was the best feeling!
- Or when you had to choose teams at recess or after school and you got picked? You felt relief and inclusion.
- For those of us well into our careers, what about a time when an employer might have given you a raise or even promoted you unexpectedly? Another positive feeling brought on by a pursuit.
How much more should we get butterflies in our stomach by the fact that God is pursuing us — He’s picked us for His team and He’s claiming us as His children. The God of the universe is pursuing you!
Jesus took on human flesh so He could come and pursue you for a relationship with Himself.

4. God protects us through DISCIPLINE.
Because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.(Hebrews 12:6)
God disciplines us to protect us from self-destructive behavior. He corrects us to push us toward the desired result.
During my college years, I dove into research about fathers and family units and parenting. One thing that stuck out was the impact of consequences.
When kids made poor choices and endured a consequence, they made fewer poor choices. But for those who didn’t have any kind of boundary, the message was: “If you don’t care enough to confront me if you don’t care enough to give me what I need instead of what I want, you don’t love me.” And guess what? Higher frequency of unhealthy behaviors.
A loving God will selectively correct us. We don’t like it, but it’s evidence of His love.

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5)
The indwelling of the Spirit demonstrates God’s love for us. The moment you receive Jesus Christ as your savior and put your trust in His work and His resurrection, the Spirit of God enters your life.
In that instant, you’re sealed and adopted into His family and you have a new inheritance. In other words, you’re His temple. And, as His temple, His Spirit will direct and lead you into truth.
For example, there was a time in my life when I knew I was being asked to break things off with a girl I was seeing. There wasn’t any drama to speak of, I just knew that we were being called to different kinds of futures. I was devastated, but I knew it was the right choice.
Honoring the indwelling of the Spirit meant honoring God’s leading whether I felt like it or not. It’s not connected to feelings, it’s simply obedience.
Think about Jesus in the garden when He knew His time was coming to an end. He asked if there was any other way to do this, and yet He prayed that God’s will be done.
Consider the times when you have experienced God’s Spirit comforting you and directing you and thank God for His leading.

6. JESUS demonstrated the nature of God’s love for us.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
The Second Person of the Trinity, Jesus, modeled compassion, grace, and truth.
He showed us the Father’s love in the way that he connected with individuals from all walks of life. He loved children, cared for the needs of people, and showed compassion.
When he was hanging out with “sinners and bad people,” Jesus was asked why. He responded with parables, all of which have the same theme:
God’s love is extreme. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for one another.

As you review these 6 verses and the truths that correspond to them, be careful not to get caught up in your human emotions. God’s love is not the sweet, doting love that we expect, but an objective reality of how He actually thinks and feels about you.
In fact, ask God to help you grasp His love for you. Pray that you can experience His love, and in the meantime, saturate your mind with truth.
